Maral Tak
My work is a nuanced exploration of the abstract and the figurative, where human forms emerge from and dissolve into vibrant, dynamic backgrounds. I work primarily with mixed media, including acrylics, and textural elements, allowing me to create layered compositions that evoke both movement and stillness. The figures in my paintings are often faceless, symbolizing the universality of human experience, and are set against a backdrop of abstract shapes and bold colors.
Themes:
Central to my work is the exploration of identity and the interplay between the self and the environment. I am deeply interested in the fluidity of identity, how it is shaped by our surroundings, relationships, and inner experiences. In my paintings, the figures are often portrayed in a state of transformation, merging with the abstract forms around them. This reflects a broader theme of how individuals are continuously influenced and reshaped by the world they inhabit.
Influences:
My work is influenced by a combination of global artistic traditions and the rich cultural heritage of Iran. I draw inspiration from the fluid forms of abstract expressionism and the intricate, symbolic nature of Persian art. Despite the restrictions placed on artistic expression in my homeland, I continue to find ways to incorporate elements of my culture into my work, using art as a means to express my identity and connect with others.

Philosophy:
Art, for me, is a powerful form of resistance and expression. It is a way to transcend the boundaries imposed by society and to connect with the universal human experience. Despite the challenges and limitations I face, I am committed to continuing my artistic journey, using my work to explore themes of identity, transformation, and resilience. My paintings are a testament to the enduring power of creativity and the belief that, even in the most repressive environments, the human spirit can find ways to flourish and express itself.
